Discovering the Riches of Accessible Puerto Rico

Reading Time: 4 minutes
San Juan castle in Puerto Rico

I just love Puerto Rico.  First, it’s in the Caribbean – always a favorite of mine. Next, it’s just about a 4 hour direct flight from Philadelphia so you can get there, check into your hotel, and be on the beach by lunch time, depending on your departure. It’s a beautiful island known for its rich history, stunning beaches, and diverse landscapes.

Most importantly, this United States Overseas Territory offers a wealth of inclusive and accessible experiences for travelers of all abilities. From its enchanting Old San Juan to its breathtaking natural wonders, Puerto Rico embraces inclusivity and provides disability-friendly activities that allow everyone to explore and enjoy the island’s treasures.

accessible hotels

There are plenty of accessible hotels to choose from in various price ranges. We stayed in the Isla Verde Beach area at the Intercontinental Hotel, which is now the Royal Sonesta. A beautiful resort right on the beach with accessible rooms facing the crystal clear Caribbean and right on the accessible public bus route –  $1.00 for a ride into Old San Juan.
