Treated Like Royalty in London

A Memorable Accessible Adventure
Our summer adventure began and ended with a family cruise, anchored by a few unforgettable days of travel in accessible London. From our royal entrance at Buckingham Palace to navigating the city’s accessible public transportation, London offered us the chance to explore in ways we hadn’t imagined. As our starting point, it set the tone for an accessible and enriching journey. Here are some highlights from our time in London, along with tips for anyone looking to experience the city with accessibility in mind.
A Royal Entrance at Buckingham Palace
Our visit to Buckingham Palace was an experience I’ll never forget. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that accessibility was not just an afterthought but something they were ready to accommodate with grandeur. We had pre-arranged an accessible tour, and when we arrived, the palace staff opened the main gates for us—a unique entry reserved for royalty and visitors with disabilities.
They even provided us with a golf cart-like vehicle, designed specifically for accessibility, to ferry us directly through the palace grounds. As we passed by, people gathered outside the gates watched us go by, as if we were part of a royal parade. My kids couldn’t resist waving back to the crowd, and the entire experience made us feel incredibly special. It was a reminder that accessibility, when done thoughtfully, can elevate a visit from convenient to truly memorable.
